Wall poem 1
18 June – 26 July 2020
Hurstville Museum and Gallery
Wall poem 1 in the first of what I intend to be a series of semi-automatic/automated experiments in writing and printmaking; see also Typing pool, a related project.
At the end of 2019, while Artist in Residence at Carss Park Artist Cottage, I carved the letters of the alphabet out of rubber to make a set of stamps.
Wall poem 1 was made with phrases, sentences and fragments of text from old copies of National Geographic magazine, which I cut out, photocopied, and placed in an envelope. I selected text randomly from the envelope, and used the alphabet stamps to print them onto a large sheet of paper attached to the wall.
Thanks to my friend Anwn, who collaborated with me to make this work.
